George Aldridge was born in Suffolk, England in 1854. He was self-educated. He was baptised, and joined the Baptist Church in England in 1874, but left the church after professing the doctrine of conditional immortality. He and his family sailed for New Zealand in 1882 where he served as minister in the Churches of Christ, Life & Advent first in Hamilton and then in Auckland. He also served as editor of The Bible Standard.
